Invented by Jack Foley, a man who worked on sound for big movie productions. This is a cheaper option for many producers as opposed to recording the real-life sounds.
Anything that moves through the screen is provided with a background sound of it, this is done through Foley’s manipulative use of real-life objects and materials to create the sound desired.
Foley is a craft where a lot of people try it and fail at it. In order to be good at foley, it is best that they had a good imagination and excellent timing in order to establish a realistic/matching feel to the particular scene.
Jack Foley describes it as being heavily influenced by energy and intensity.
